IDIOTS
IDIOTS is a multi-faceted wager, inspired in part by the observation that when it comes to French rock, the synthesis of the Anglo-Saxon school and the French language is still a new idea. To bridge this missing link, the band relies on a few load-bearing walls. Rhythmic energy, first and foremost, for a resolutely rock spirit and musical aesthetic. IDIOTS tracks, even when incorporating other influences, always retain the nerves and the frontal mode. Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, the Clash, P.J. Harvey... are not prophets in their own country. Then there's pop inventiveness and diversity, in terms of construction and arrangements, and melodies chiselled in honour of other youthful loves: Beatles, Bowie and Talking Heads. IDIOTS gives pride of place to vocals and backing vocals, going against the grain of the "chanté-parlé" trend so often (too?) (conveniently?) used in French-language rock. The result is a confident, no-holds-barred pop-rock that throws out the traditional labels - "French chanson", "French variété", or even "French rock" - and aims to tread the same ground as its glorious idols across the Channel and Atlantic, without borrowing their language or apeing their styles.
